We're thrilled to share that CareYaya has been featured in The Charlotte Observer! This recognition highlights our mission to transform senior care in Charlotte and throughout North Carolina.
Making Senior Care Accessible
The Charlotte Observer article shines a light on how CareYaya is addressing one of the most pressing challenges facing families today: finding affordable, high-quality care for aging loved ones. In Charlotte, where traditional elder care rates often exceed $30 per hour, many families find themselves priced out of the private care market.
Our innovative approach connects families with passionate college students studying nursing, medicine, and other health-related fields. These student caregivers provide compassionate companionship and assistance at a fraction of traditional agency costs, starting at just $15 per hour.

A Win-Win Model
What makes CareYaya unique is that we benefit everyone involved:
For Seniors: Access to affordable, personalized care from energetic young caregivers who bring companionship, technical know-how, and genuine enthusiasm to their work.
For Families: Peace of mind knowing their loved ones are cared for without breaking the bank. Our overnight care runs approximately $120 per night—less than half the cost of comparable services.
For Students: Valuable hands-on experience in healthcare while earning income and making a real difference in their community.
Growing Impact in Charlotte
Since expanding to Charlotte, we've partnered with students from UNC Charlotte, Queens University, and Davidson College. Our research identified Charlotte as having the highest concentration of elderly residents in North Carolina, combined with some of the most expensive care costs—creating the perfect opportunity for our service to make a meaningful impact.
CareYaya is proud to be supported by prestigious organizations including Johns Hopkins, the National Institutes of Health, and the AgeTech Collaborative from AARP. This backing reflects the strength of our model and our commitment to advancing public health equity for aging populations.
What Families Are Saying
The response from Charlotte families has been overwhelmingly positive. Caregivers describe feeling welcomed as part of the family, while seniors appreciate the engaging companionship and reliable support. Many families have shared how CareYaya has helped their loved ones age happily at home, avoiding the disruption of facility placement.
Looking Forward
This feature in The Charlotte Observer validates what we've known all along: there's a better way to provide elder care, one that's affordable, high-quality, and built on meaningful relationships between generations.
If you're in Charlotte and need care for a loved one, or if you're a college student interested in making a difference while gaining healthcare experience, we invite you to join the CareYaya community.
