Why Caregivers are headed for a crisis: The Hill's "Raising America" Podcast

The Cost-Quality Crisis in Caregiving

One of the most pressing issues facing American families today is the disconnect between what they pay for care and what caregivers actually receive. As our founder explained on the podcast: "I think that's a big problem, that the cost of care is too high, but the quality of care is low because the worker is getting less than half of what you're paying."

This fundamental imbalance leaves families struggling with unaffordable care costs while caregivers face financial instability, a lose-lose situation that CareYaya was created to address.

A Health-Tech Solution to the Caregiver Shortage

CareYaya Health Technologies is more than a caregiving platform. We're building a comprehensive health-tech solution designed to tackle multiple challenges simultaneously. By connecting families with health-focused student caregivers, we're creating a model that expands access to affordable, in-home care while simultaneously developing the next generation of healthcare workers.

This approach directly responds to the national caregiver shortage by building a sustainable pipeline of compassionate, trained professionals who understand the value of person-centered care from the very beginning of their careers.

Honoring How People Want to Live and Die

Perhaps the most powerful moment in the podcast centered on a question that goes to the heart of what we do: How do people want to spend their final days?

"When you survey older adults and even middle-aged people, how do you want to die? Over 80 percent of them say, in my home, surrounded by family," our founder shared. "When you observe the people that died last year, how did they die? Less than 20% of them, most of them died in bright frost or lights at the hospital, on a bunch of machinery. And I think that is a freaking tragedy, you know. So, we don't do end of life care well."

This gap between how people want to age and die and how they actually experience these profound life moments drives everything we do at CareYaya. We believe that dignity, comfort, and connection shouldn't be luxuries reserved for those who can afford traditional home care. They should be accessible to everyone.

Our Mission Moving Forward

Every day, we work toward a future where:

  • Families can access affordable, quality in-home care
  • Caregivers receive fair compensation and meaningful experience
  • Healthcare students gain hands-on training that shapes their entire careers
  • Older adults can age with dignity in the homes they love
  • The gap between how people want to live and how our systems support them grows smaller

We're grateful to "Raising America" and The Hill for amplifying this important conversation. The challenges facing our caregiving system are significant, but so is our commitment to solving them—one family, one caregiver, one student at a time.
