Dementia and Alzheimer's Care

CareYaya student caregivers provide relationship-based dementia care with the patience and attentiveness needed to help care recipients feel safe and engaged. As aspiring healthcare professionals, they bring a strong interest in and knowledge of brain health. Their energy and curiosity naturally foster cognitive stimulation as they encourage games, activities, and conversations that invite reminiscence and recall.

Overnight Care

CareYaya student caregivers are a great choice for overnight senior care. Many students even prefer these shifts if they usually keep late hours and because these sessions do not conflict with class schedules. Students’ late-night alertness make them dependable and attentive companions.

24/7 Care

CareYaya offers a flexible solution for families requiring around-the-clock support. Our platform makes it easy to schedule and manage rotating shifts for a care team of energetic, pre-vetted student caregivers, ensuring continuous, high-quality care without burnout.

In-Facility Support

CareYaya students are a great supplement for individuals living in retirement communities, independent living, or assisted living facilities. They provide one-on-one companionship and attentive support that complements existing care staff, helping reduce isolation, engage your loved one in meaningful activities, and advocate for their needs.

Who is not eligible for CareYaya services?

Our team of CareYaya joygivers consists of pre-health students, with approximately one third holding CNA certifications. However, our students are not professionally trained caregivers. Due to safety and liability considerations, we are unable to assist with the following:

Tasks:

Bathing and showering (families often choose to use an agency for bathing/showering times and CareYaya for the rest!)
Driving (accompanying on rideshare or public transport is ok)
Injections
Lift devices (e.g. Hoyer lift)
Medication administration
Wound care

Medical Equipment:

We cannot provide services to individuals who have the following even if students do not directly interact with the medical equipment.

Catheter
Colostomy or ostomy bag
IV
Nutritional or oxygen tubes
Tracheostomy

Task descriptions

Companionship

CareYaya student caregivers bring energy and a genuine interest in connecting, fostering meaningful social interactions for older adults. Their engaging conversation and friendly presence help reduce loneliness and support emotional well-being.

Mobility

CareYaya student caregivers can offer mobility assistance for older adults, including help with walking, standing, and transferring to reduce fall risk and encouraging safe movement. Students can also encourage and help with physical therapy exercises.

Meal Prep

CareYaya student caregivers can assist with simple meal preparation tasks such as heating up food, preparing light meals or snacks, chopping ingredients, plating food, and cleaning up, following your loved one’s preferences and routines to ensure mealtimes are consistent and stress-free.

Light Housekeeping

CareYaya student caregivers can assist with light household tasks such as tidying spaces, folding laundry, wiping counters, washing dishes, etc., keeping the environment safe and clean.

Dressing & Grooming

CareYaya student caregivers can assist with personal appearance tasks such as outfit selection, dressing, brushing hair, and applying light makeup, helping seniors feel confident and comfortable.

Light Personal Assistance

CareYaya student caregivers can provide non-medical personal care assistance including toileting reminders and prompts, hydration cues, and help with adult briefs.

Activities

CareYaya student caregivers can engage older adults in their favorite activities like games, music, puzzles, crafts, etc., boosting mental stimulation and emotional wellness.

Pets

CareYaya student caregivers can assist with pet care, including walking, feeding, or simply spending time with beloved pets.

Medication Reminders

CareYaya student caregivers can provide medication reminders for pre-filled prescriptions, keeping care recipients on schedule.

Errands

CareYaya student caregivers can help with errands including grocery pickup, prescription runs, mailing packages, and more.

Technology

CareYaya student caregivers are digital natives who can offer tech support for older adults, including everything from setting up video calls, to streaming music, to digitizing photos.

Non-Driving Transportation

While CareYaya student caregivers cannot drive, they can provide ride-along support by accompanying care recipients via Uber, Lyft, public transit, or with a family driver.
